Expressing Inner Life
My work, is an expression of my inner life and feelings on canvas. I used to identify with the abstract expressionists, but some years ago the work became more figurative allowing closer identification with the mood being expressed.
Using Female Figure
I often use a single female figure in close identification with my experience in life, but what I am expressing are universal feelings and experiences. Therefore, I tend to use nude figures so as not to tie into a particular time or cultural context.
Striving For Growth
However, much of the work expresses an interest in what is hidden under the surface, layering one image over the other. I am also interested in humans striving for growth and transcendence, with a recurrent theme of movement often using birds to symbolize this.
I enjoy an enlargement of the subject, a kind of heightened realism – combined with strong light and contrast, to enhance or change the viewer’s experience.
